Sensing & Perception
Advanced unmanned robotic & AI technologies and new security approaches that utilize these technologies will ensure the maximum safety of the first responders. With these technologies it is possible to provide them with timely and comprehensive information about the incident. This will enable them to respond effectively with appropriate tools at a distance. As such, they do not endanger their lives and at the same time they save the lives of others and prevent property damages.
Main themes
We develop sensing solutions that allow mobile robots to navigate through the most extreme environments encountered by first responders. Providing first responders with situational awareness in hazardous visually-degraded situations allows for safer and more efficient operations.
Besides sensing, mobile robots are also used to perform physical tasks in places unreachable or too dangerous for humans. Examples of applications we are researching are using drones to extinguish a fire or install a sensor at altitude.
First responders operate in critical situations under high time pressure. Receiving lots of data can become overwhelming at times. We research the use of artificial intelligence to process the raw sensor data into digestible information allowing first responders to make more efficient and informed decisions.
