We look forward to welcoming you to Saxion University of Applied Sciences. After the summer you will start your study Tourism Management at the Hospitality Business School (HBS). On this page you will find all the important information for a great start at Saxion!

Classes will start on Monday 1 September. Your schedule will be available online at Xedule  in August. Please check all schedules, so you will have an idea about subjects and times on the first days of your study. You will receive detailed information upon arrival at Saxion University and online. 

On MySaxion.nl you will find all the tools you need for your studies at Saxion. You can find the following on MySaxion:

  • Your timetable and changes to your timetable;
  • Information about exams;
  • Your most recent e-mails, grades and Bison and Brightspace announcements;
  • Who’s who: easily search for a lecturer or fellow student;
  • Information about your degree programme and Saxion's facilities;
  • Urgent notices and news

MySaxion Student App
Thanks to the new MySaxion Student App, you can now check your phone at any moment to see your current timetable and exam timetable. If a timetable changes, then you will receive a notification. Read on to see how to install the app and what you can expect of it.  

This is the first step towards offering you a smartphone app that has all the information you could need during your studies. Download the app, available in the store now!  

Studiewinkel.nl

You can order your textbooks for your studies at Saxion through Studiewinkel.nl.  Order your entire book list or easily buy individual books with a 5% student discount.

The book list can be found via the link above or by using the steps below on the website of Studiewinkel.nl (in Dutch).

  • Select Saxion in the search bar
  • Then select the location of your course
  • Select your study programme
  • View the booklist

Of course you are free to order your textbooks through other channels and suppliers. Some books are also available second hand. Please make sure you order the correct version/ edition. 

Not a First Year student?

The information on this webpage is aimed at First Year students only, which means that it is not applicable to exchange students and international students starting in the second, third or fourth (final) year.

Cost overview

Here you can find an overview of the expected costs for additional learning materials during the first year of your Hotel Management programme (such as the materials list). The amounts listed are indicative and subject to change. No rights can be derived from this overview.

Laptop requirements:

Besides your books, you will also need other study materials. Saxion recommends purchasing a good laptop* with camera and microphone. This is necessary because we work with an online learning environment that you must be able to work with both during class, possibly during a exam, at home and at your workplace.

*The minimum laptop requirements are Windows 11 or Mac OS 15-compatible.

Dress code during occasions

In the hospitality sector it is highly valuated to be dressed appropriately for the occasion. Every programme of HBS has its own dress code. You do not have to purchase any clothing yet! You will receive more information about the dress code during the course.

INTRO is coming up and you don't want to miss it! 💚 This is your first week at Saxion and your introduction to your study programme, fellow students and student city. After the summer you will start with the study Tourism Management at the Hospitality Business School (HBS).

Your study will start with an introduction programme, which is an important part of your study. The introduction programme will take place from Tuesday 26 August to Thursday 28 August 2025.

The introduction programme consists of:

  1. A introduction with Hospitality Business School and your own programme. At the start on Tuesday you will hear in which class you have been placed.
  2. An introduction to the study association, Saxion and Apeldoorn.

Explanation of the programme schedule:

  • On Tuesday 26 August, we welcome you at the main hall of Saxion in Deventer at 9:30 hrs. This day you will meet your class, fellow students and your study coach. Lunch is included! We close the afternoon with the Saxion Food Truck Festival* You can only join this day with a (free) ticket for the ‘get to know your study programme’ of with a (paid) INTRO ticket.

* You can only join the Food Truck Festival with a (paid) INTRO ticket.

  • On Wednesday 27 August, we welcome you at 9:30 hrs at the Front Office of the HBS. This day the programme will be provided by the student association Viatorem. Lunch is included! Afterwards, you can join the Saxion BBQ and the rest of the evening programme! You can only join this day with a (paid) INTRO ticket.

Good to know

You do not need to bring a laptop for the course introduction;

There are no lockers at Saxion to store valuables, so we advise you to leave them at home as much as possible;

You can leave your luggage for the overnight stay(s) with the INTRO team.

Language choice
Around July 1. you will receive information about the second modern foreign language (French, German or Spanish) to which you are assigned. If you apply after July 1, you will receive the language classification as soon as the registration is completed.
