Workplace Strategy and Design

The way we work is changing under the influence of technology. The COVID crisis has given hybrid working a huge push and the vast majority of employees prefer to work partly from home. This is affecting the real estate market. Many companies are rethinking how much real estate they need and in which location(s). Workplace managers are the spider in the web. They bring the needs of users, the organisation and other stakeholders together in an affordable, flexible and sustainable workplace concept.

Wat kun je straks?

In this module, you will learn how to use the work environment as a strategic business asset. Because a workplace is much more than a place to work productively. The working environment can also be used to attract talent, to stimulate innovation, to convey an organisation's identity and cultural values, or to contribute to making business operations more sustainable. You will also learn to translate these ambitions into a workplace strategy and an (evidence-based) design of the working environment.

Inhoud

This module runs for six weeks. Each week, you will have a full day of classes with alternating theory and interactive work formats. The module is structured around the steps in Koppejan's (2009) Housing Choice Model: 1) researching the context, 2) establishing ambitions and user profiles, 3) conceptual choices and 4) substantiation and design. In this module, you will start working with service design techniques.

Programma

In the Master in Facility and Real Estate Management, we recognise that our society faces major challenges in terms of making the built environment more sustainable (transition to circular economy) and anticipating disruptive technology (such as AI and IoT). These complex strategic issues call for experts who are able to place housing issues in a broader perspective, beyond the boundaries of their own field. The Workplace Strategy & Design module is one of the core modules of the education programme. If you decide to enter the Facility and Real Estate Management Master's degree (MFREM/MSc) after completing the course, you may be eligible for exemptions and a discount of €500 per completed module.

Afronding

You complete this module with a 3D design of a working environment and a rationale for it.
