What will you learn in this course?

The path to successful communication begins with language. Mastering the Dutch language will expand your opportunities and enhance both your professional and social life. The experienced and certified Dutch as a Second Languag teachers will guide you through the basics of the Dutch language and culture.

At the end of the A1 language module, you will be able to ask and answer short questions, have simple conversations, follow a basic conversation, and understand simple words, expressions, and sentences. You will learn, for example, how to talk about yourself, order something in a store or café, ask for directions, search for accommodation, and introduce yourself.

Content

During the course, you will learn about the Dutch language and culture. The group lessons focus on practicing language skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking. You will learn how to use the language within various everyday themes. Examples of these themes include ‘introducing yourself,’ ‘at a restaurant,’ and ‘at the market.’ In three of the lessons, you will also explore topics related to Dutch culture.

If there are enough registrations, courses will start twice a year, in September and February. The courses are held in both Deventer (on mondays) and Enschede (on thursdays). Each course lasts for two consecutive periods (one semester).

There are fifteen lessons, and each lesson lasts two hours. Three out of the fifteen lessons focus on Dutch culture. These three lessons last three hours.

Completion

Halfway through the course, you will take a quiz to assess your progress. At the end of the course, you can take a standardized A1 test that includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will receive a certificate when you achieve these skills at level A1.

Practical information

The price of the course is € 150, including a textbook. Erasmus+ students can attend the course for free.

After completing the A1 beginners course, you can sign up for the Follow-up Course A2 to further enhance your Dutch language skills. This course is held online.

After your application you will be informed in time about the start. In your Saxion mailbox, you will receive an invoice. To be paid before the start of the course.
